Virtual Friendship: An Ode to My Online Girlfriends

Girlfriends from unexpected quarters
As the world becomes more and more digital, we find friendship in the most unexpected places. And I must admit, I have the most lovely girlfriends around me. Yet cozy new girlfriends came from an unexpected place: the worldwide web! Maybe not obvious to others, but in this blog I want to share my unique and special experiences and pay tribute to the super nice women who became my virtual girlfriends.
A virtual beginning
My adventure began in the wonderful world of Instagram: a place full of colorful pixels and funky names. I stumbled upon a group of amazing power women, all with the same passion and interest: interior design. Although we were sometimes miles apart, but sometimes surprisingly close, we built a beautiful bond together, just like any friendship!
The power of words
As we typed back and forth, I discovered the power of words! From heartwarming conversations about everyday life to sharing our ups and downs, our virtual chats were the key of our bond. Sometimes it was just a simple "good morning" app or a cozy smiley that brightened my day. For example, that huge feeling of nostalgia for my old job as a flight attendant. The bubbly atmosphere surrounding my former profession and the conversations I had with my coworkers, I now got that virtually.
Laughing together even though we are far away
One of the biggest misconceptions about online friends is that they are superficial. But I have proven otherwise with my virtual chickies. Laughing together, even if we are miles away, is something we have become very good at! Sharing memes that make us laugh, chatting about our favo series on Netflix or simply sharing where you bought that cool pair of pants or sweater.
Virtual support in real-life situations
While I occasionally had my ups and downs, missed my old life terribly, my online bffs were my companions even when they couldn't really be there. Their virtual hugs and heartwarming words could just make my day.
The magic of virtual encounters
Do you know what was the most wonderful thing about our wonderful online friendship? That moment when we decided to meet in real life! Planning to go to an event together not only made it accessible, but also created a common interest and a common goal to look forward to. And of course that's exciting! But how crazy is it that we effortlessly chatted on as if we had been matties for years! And to make it even more exciting, I even went on a trip. The first trip took us to Ibiza, where we first met at the airport.
The second trip was to Marrakesh, an interior design adventure and a present for myself. I went with girls I only knew through Instagram. It was crazy to meet them in real life now, but it felt so familiar and what a super nice experience!
Friendship knows no boundaries
Who says friendship always has to be face-to-face? I am living proof that my online friendships have made my life even more fun! Thanks to my passion for interior design and sharing about it on Instagram, I have built the most special and unique friendships.
